Man struck with barbecue pit arrested for aggravated assault

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A Longview man has been arrested for aggravated assault after a series of confrontations that ended with him being struck with a barbecue pit.

Longview police arrested Tyrone Douglas Floyd, 49, about 3:39 a.m. Thursday at Johnson Street Apartments, in the 400 block of Johnson Street.

Police say Floyd was arguing with an unidentified woman when a second person attempted to intervene. Floyd then went to that person's apartment and got into an altercation with them. A third person attempted to intervene and Floyd allegedly attempted to cut them with a knife. The person then struck him with a barbecue pit.

Floyd, who police say was extremely intoxicated, was taken to an area hospital to be cleared. After he was treated, he was transported to the Gregg County Jail.

During transport, he attempted to conceal a bag of marijuana that had fallen from his pocket onto the floor of the police vehicle.

He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair. Bond has not been set.
