DPS trooper involved in shooting that leaves one dead in Paris

PARIS, TX (KLTV) - The Department of Public Safety says that one of their troopers shot a man to death in Paris Monday night.

At about 7:30 p.m., a highway patrol trooper noticed a white male sitting on a concrete barrier in the center of U.S. 82 near the Paris Regional Medical Center. The trooper approached the man to check on him, DPS officials say, and the man became angry. An altercation began, and the trooper used his TASER, officials say, but it had no effect on the man.

The trooper was injured during the confrontation to the point that he feared for his life, and shot the man, who died at the scene.

The trooper was taken to the Paris Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a dislocated shoulder.

The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers. Stay with KLTV and KLTV.com for updates.
