SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Noah Thompson, 16 years old, was jogging Sunday night on Smith County Road 1134 when he says he came across more than 100 pieces of mail strewn across and alongside the road.
Noah says much of it had already been opened. "The closer I got, I realized it was paper," Noah says, "It had family pictures, sympathy cards, birthday cards…"
He called his mother, Brandy Thompson for help gathering it all.
Brandy recall her sons words, "'Mom, can you bring me some bags?' He says, 'Mom, there is mail all over the road.'"
They worked together to gather as much as they could, then took it all to the central post office.
Brandy described what they found, "They were not from addresses up around here."
Neighbor Freddie Rosson recalls a recent issue with his mail, after placing four checks in his box to be sent. "Well, the flag was still up, so I went looking and it was scattered all down the road."
For Noah and Brandy, they hope their bizarre find will have some sort of resolution.
"That was disrespect to our community, whoever it was," Brandy says.
Noah tells us he wants the issue made right, "Give it to the people it belongs to."
The US Postal Service says they are investigating this situation. A mail theft conviction can be punishable with as much as 5 years in prison.
