Naked man charged after allegedly causing multiple wrecks
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Longview police say a naked man who allegedly caused multiple wrecks Tuesday in Longview and fought with officers, has been arrested on multiple charges.
About 11:35 a.m., Longview police were dispatched to a wreck blocking the roadway in the 3300 Block of Gilmer Road. When officers arrived, they were told a Hispanic male was traveling southbound on Gilmer Road in a red Dodge truck weaving in and out of traffic and hanging out the window.
While officers were en route to the call, the suspect's truck struck six vehicles causing a wreck that blocked traffic.
Police say the suspect was traveling northbound on Gilmer Road in Longview when he drove though an intersection at Hawkins Parkway and Gilmer Road, colliding with a Tahoe. Officers said the 35-year-old, who has not been identified, had his son, who is a minor, in the vehicle with him.
The suspect's vehicle wrecked near a car wash on Gilmer Road and witnesses said he exited the vehicle and ran toward the business yelling and screaming.
After the collision, the suspect began to fight with his son, bystanders, and officers. Police say that during the fight, he attempted to take an officer's gun from the holster. Officers say the man took off his clothes behind the car wash and it took three officers to restrain the man and put him on a stretcher. He was transported to a local hospital for observation and until he is transported to the Gregg County Jail.
The man has been charged with attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer and assault family violence. No one was injured during the incident.
