TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A Tyler educator is being honored by PBS.
Paul Eyler, Tyler Independent School District middle school science facilitator, was recently named a Lead Digital Innovator in the 2015 PBS Learning Media Digital Innovators Program.
According to a district release, 100 educators out of thousands who apply are selected for the program. However, only 30 are named Lead Digital Innovators.
"Being nationally recognized as a lead digital innovator this year will provide a remarkable opportunity to learn from and collaborate with top educators in the nation," Eyler said. "It also benefits our students with a vast resource of high quality digital media that can help promote deeper knowledge in all content areas."
Eyler incorporates technology into education on daily basis, but believes that it is not a matter of simply using the technology but rather how you go about using it effectively that enhances each child's experience in the classroom. Many students may not be able to experience things like skydiving or volcanoes for themselves, he says, but when they experience these things virtually through technology they can better visualize what the content is about.
All 100 digital innovators will receive one year of free professional development and benefits, including virtual training, access to premium and exclusive resources, a free PBS TeacherLine course, invitations to special events, membership into a robust professional learning community, and networking and engagement opportunities with peers and thought leaders.
The 30 lead digital Innovators will also receive a three-day, all-expense paid trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to participate in the 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators Summit, June 27-28. They will also get an opportunity to attend the ISTE Conference June 29. Attendees will hear from speakers and pedagogical experts, learn strategies for delivering classroom-ready best practices in digital learning, and network with like-minded peers.
