GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - Every top prospect in East Texas had committed to their desired school before National Signing Day. Every prospect, but one. The biggest one. Six-foot one, 330 pound Gladewater star Daylon Mack made his announcement with a live national audience.
Lights, camera's, and ESPN were in Gladewater to hear the number six recruit in the nation make his signing day decision on live television.
"At this time, its a very tough decision by the way," Daylon Mack said. "But at this time I will be taking my talents to Texas A&M University to join coach Kevin Sumlin."
So the big question, why did Mack choose Texas A&M over TCU and Texas?
"It just came down to relationships," Mack said. "You know my relationship with coach Sumlin and the staff you can't find that at every school. He never blew up at me or got mad at me. He stuck with me and I'm sticking with him."
The five-star defensive tackle who actually decommitted form the Aggies at one time said the decision was not easy.
"TCU's in home visit with Coach Patterson I mean it was great," Mack said. "It was a great in home visit. And the one with Texas was great too. But at the same time when coach Sumlin came there were not any questions we even had to ask."
And despite three years of various phone calls, text messages, and serious thinking Mack enjoyed the recruiting process.
"It was fun, it was fun I can't lie," Mack said. "Thank y'all for all coming it made my announcement very special to me, and I will never forget, thank y'all."
Daylon Mack will be a name East Texas never forgets either.
