HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - East Texas authorities are trying to run down any leads possible in the mystery of a million dollars stashed in a burning trailer.

Last week, Eric Royster was killed when he was struck by an 18-wheeler while checking a fire outside his truck in Harrison County.

A search of the wreckage revealed a large amount of cash. Deputies recovered more than $300,000.

Investigators estimate that around $700,000 burned in the fire.

No clues have been found as to how it got there, and investigators have questioned all the people involved.

"It was not money that was being transported as part of the owners money or furniture, owners money. This department, the county and the country would love to find out who's receiving the money. Where it's going. What was it going to be used for," says Harrison County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Jay Webb.

The recovered money not damaged was sent to the federal reserve bank in Dallas.
