GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - A wreck in Upshur County on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a Gladewater High School student and sent his brother to the hospital.
The Department of Public Safety said John Tristian Wisinger was driving south on Farm to Market 2685 with his brother, Nikalas Wisinger. The boys' vehicle left the road and rolled several times, ejecting Nikalas. The boys were on their way to school.
Nikalas was pronounced dead at the scene and his brother was taken to an area hospital, where he was released on Wednesday afternoon.
Gladewater Independent School District Dr. J.P. Richardson said grief counselors and youth ministers from across the town are on campus on Wednesday to talk to students. A school-wide assembly was held Wednesday morning to talk about the accident.
Richardson was called to the scene of the accident and was there when the boys' mother arrived.
"We're letting the kids, faculty and staff slow down today," said Richardson. "There are plenty of counselors available for anyone who needs it."
Richardson added that the school's athletic events will continue as scheduled, saying Nikalas, who played football for the Bears, would want it that way.
According to Richardson, Nikalas's brother was a senior and Nikalas was a junior.
"He was a fun-loving, great kid," remembered Richardson. "A wonderful student."
Some of Nikalas' friends and teammates took to Twitter to remember him.
The Nikalas Wisinger Memorial Fund will be set up at Austin Bank in Gladewater.
