LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - One man is dead and another injured in an overnight shooting in Longview.
According to police, the shooting happened around 3:57 a.m. near the intersection of Garfield and Green streets. Police were dispatched to the scene after reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they found one person dead. Another was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound. That person has since been released.
Family members told KLTV that Longview resident Tyson Patterson, 33, was killed in the shooting and that he did not live at the residence where the shooting occurred. Friends and family of Patterson gathered at the scene to console each other.
Evidence and investigation crews were on scene on Thursday morning. A search warrant was issued and investigators were seen inside the apartment collecting evidence. Several neighbors were awakened Thursday morning by a volley of shots at the apartment complex in the 100 block of Garfield Street.
Next-door neighbor Lisa Rodney shares a wall with the apartment where the shooting took place.
"I don't know who did it, I just heard gunshots," Rodney said, adding that the shots woke her up. She said there were a lot of gunshots.
"... It was just one gun but a lot of: pow pow pow," Rodney said.
She said she was relieved no bullets came through the wall and her main concern was the children.
"It was something the children never should have experienced," Rodney said. Neither she, nor the kids were injured.
By 8 am there were groups of neighbors watching and wondering what happened.
Kenneth Nelson didn't hear the gunfire but has lived in the area all his life and has seen violence increase over the years.
"We're here to get along and love on another not to kill and destroy one another," Nelson said.
