TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A wreck that involved two 18-wheelers and a car had Highway 271 shut down about 10 miles north of Mount Pleasant for much of the day on Tuesday and sent three to the hospital.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sylvia Jennings said that the accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when a southbound car driven by Cais Simmons, 34, of Broken Arrow, OK, drifted into the northbound lane and hit an 18-wheeler head-on. A second 18-wheeler traveling south tried to avoid hitting them and went into the ditch and rolled over.

There were two children in the car with Simmons. A 4-year-old boy was airlifted to a Dallas hospital in critical condition. A 6-year-old girl was not injured.

The driver of the first 18-wheeler, 45-year-old James Edward Lewis, Jr. sustained no injuries. The driver of the second 18-wheeler, Glen Banglider, 63, of Broken Arrow, OK, was airlifted to St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.

Highway 271 was reopened on Tuesday afternoon.
