Police have identified the suspect in an officer-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon near a park in north Longview.

Longview police identified the suspect as 23 year-old Regan Marshall Wagner of Longview. Police say just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, a Longview police officer made a traffic stop in the 400 block of Delwood drive near Akin Park. During the traffic stop there was gunfire. Longview police officer Kristie Brian said the suspect was transported to Longview Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died on Thursday night.

Wagner was arrested in 2013 for making a threat against a public servant. He was also arrested in 2014 on a probation violation.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave while the Texas Rangers complete an investigation.

People at the apartment complex where Wagner used to live remember him as a quiet almost timid man, soft spoken and polite. They say he never gave any indication of hostility towards anyone.

Neighbors near the park heard the gunfire, something that they aren't used to in that area.

"I was in the backyard on my patio when I heard what sounded like firecrackers to me , I never would have thought it was gunshots because of the neighborhood," said neighbor Tony Hollins.

One neighbor believes he may have seen this suspect's vehicle in the park recently.

"Yes I know I've seen it once or twice sitting there but he don't stay very long," said Elvers Lacy.
