Authorities investigating human remains found in northeastern Smith Co.

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff's Department is investigating burned human remains found in northeastern Smith County. Authorities say the remains were found off of Highway 271 near Interstate 20 on County Road 371.
Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith tells KLTV that the remains were found rolled up in a carpet. The sheriff believes there are three potential crime scenes related to the remains. The body hasn't been located
It is believed the remains were left at the scene sometime Thursday night. They were still smoldering when the sheriff's deputy arrived on Friday morning around 7:30.
