(KLTV) - Attention breakfast fans!
After years of tempting, teasing and testing, Taco Bell began officially selling the 'Waffle Taco' on Thursday morning at restaurants across the nation.
Billed as the 'next generation of breakfast,' the Waffle Taco features eggs, cheese and your choice of bacon or sausage wrapped up in a waffle.
Other items on the new breakfast menu include the A.M. Crunchwrap and Sausage Flatbread Melt. The breakfast menu has 15 items. Most Taco Bells will open at 7 a.m. to serve breakfast.
The fast-food chain will also begin airing ads Thursday that feature everyday men named Ronald McDonald, the same name as the McDonald's mascot known for his bright red hair and yellow jumpsuit. The marketing campaign is intended to promote Taco Bell's new breakfast menu, which features novelties like a waffle taco.
The chain, owned by Yum Brands Inc. of Louisville, Ky., is looking to boost sales by opening most of its roughly 6,000 U.S. stores a few hours earlier at 7 a.m. starting this week.
Taco Bell's ad agency, Deutsch LA, found around 400 men and women with the name Ronald McDonald, Ronnie McDonald or some variation, Niccol said. A couple of dozen were selected to represent different regions around the country including Bossier City, La.; Chicago; Dubuque, Iowa; Kane, Pa.; and Worcester, Ma.
