From the Wood County Sheriff's Office:
WOOD COUNTY, TX - The Wood County Sheriff's Office is in the process of conducting a large scale investigation into a drug and theft ring that has been operating in the southeastern part of our county. Investigators determined that certain suspects were stealing property such as four wheelers and firearms for the purpose of trading the stolen property for drugs. The "middle man" drug dealer was then exchanging the stolen property for a larger amount of drugs.
As a part of that investigation, on March 6, 2014, Wood County Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant in Panola County near Carthage, Texas. The search warrant yielded a large amount of stolen property including hundreds of firearms, four wheelers, stolen lawn mowers, stolen vehicles, as well as drugs and paraphernalia.
The investigation is continuing and arrest warrants will be obtained for a number of suspects. The operation will result in the solving of numerous thefts and burglaries in Wood and surrounding counties.
