TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Stanley's Famous Pit BBQ has long been a Tyler favorite. In business for nearly sixty years, it is impossible that the love for Stanley's food could stay a secret in East Texas.
The secret has been leaked again. Owner Nick Pencis and his crew at the restaurant have received another pat on the back, this time from Texas Monthly's most delicious page, TMBBQ.com, which is dedicated to great Texas barbecue. Writer Daniel Vaughn shared an article called, "Texas's Best BBQ Sandwiches," and at the top of the list was our very own Stanley's.
The sandwich that made the list is the humorously-named Mother Clucker. The fantastic concoction is composed of Stanley's unique jalapeno cheese sourdough bread, a smoked chicken thigh, a fried egg (is your mouth watering yet?) cheddar cheese, spicy barbecue mayonnaise, candied bacon, and, if you'd like, fresh guacamole.
Vaughn said that it is "ridiculously good," and that the chicken thigh should be a replacement for chicken breast on all chicken sandwiches from now on, describing the meat as tender and smoky. The egg and smoky barbecue sauce make it moist, drippy delicacy that many East Texans already know and love.
Now that the word is out, we are sure more barbecue lovers from around the state will be flocking to Stanley's, to offer much-deserved congratulations to the folks at Stanley's and to sample this top-of-the-list treat.
Also making the list at #10 was the Brown Pig sandwich at Neely's in Marshall, which Vaughn called "somewhere between sloppy Joe and pulled pork," suggesting that you try it and the Brown Beef, as well.
Stanley's is located at 525 S. Beckham Avenue in Tyler.
