New restaurant coming to East Texas, bringing 200 jobs
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - There are 200 jobs coming to Tyler at a new restaurant off of Old Jacksonville Highway.
Matt Shulz, the owner and manager of the new restaurant, "Jules," says it's been hard to find qualified employees who want to work in the service industry. He says he's already hired several people from out of state to fill the 200 positions his restaurant will require.
"In order to keep this giant, new restaurant full of paying customers, it's going to take a lot of paid employees," said Shulz.
"We're going to be open for breakfast, and through late nights so we have to have a staff to help make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We need people to serve at night also," said Shulz.
Considering the over 10,000 square foot building, plus an 8,000 square foot patio, Shulz says he will need a full staff.
He says the interviewing process has been complicated, but he has already hired 60 percent of his staff
"We have so many moving parts in this restaurant," said Shulz. "On the initial interview, we determine on the initial interview, 'Okay, I think you're going to be a good cook, or front desk.' You do go by experience, but a lot of people don't have experience. They are just excited, and want to come work at this cool new place."
He has even brought people in from out of state.
"The chef we brought in is from Vegas, and some of the other chefs we brought in from Dallas," said Shulz. "They are used to the career-minded servers."
Shulz says it's a challenge looking for employees that will see it as more than temporary work.
"We're looking for someone to come in, and make this their home. This is our first time building a restaurant like this so we're looking for people that, even coming in as a server, can move up to management, or move up beyond just being a server," said Shulz. "You can build, and grow with us as we build, and grow too."
Shulz has created an opportunity, to give others opportunity
Jules is expected to open on November 1st.
