When Tommie Ritter Smith moved back to her native Carthage to head up the Chamber of Commerce, she began looking for a unique, one of a kind tourist attraction. She found it in native-son super stars Tex Ritter and Jim Reeves. Later, it was her idea to expand the Ritter Museum into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Museum.
In its 16th year, the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame boasts some of the top stars in the business, including Willie Nelson, Dale Evans, Kris Kristofferson and George Jones. Carthage has just approved a new million dollar expansion of the museum.
