TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Five people are in local hospitals after a near head-on collision triggered a four-vehicle wreck Tuesday night.
The wreck happened near the intersection of Highway 31 East and County Road 24 in Tyler.
Troopers say traffic was stopped as cars were preparing to make a left turn onto County Road 24, when a Tahoe failed to stop in time. It swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid rear-ending other vehicles, and hit a car nearly head-on.
The collision nearly tore the oncoming car's passenger side door off and caused the Tahoe to flip at least once.
Five people in all were taken to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time, but troopers at the scene say all of the victims were conscious at the time they were taken to the hospital.
