Two men injured after altercation including a gun and a knife

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Released by the Tyler Police Department:
On April 29, 2012, at about 1:55 pm, Tyler Police received a 911 call of a man with a gun shooting in the area of Richfield Drive. Once officers arrived at the scene, they found two white males on the ground in an alley way behind 7109 Richfield. Officers learned that Lewis Hampton, a white male age 41, had threatened several people with a large knife. One white male, who was threatened by Hampton, had a handgun in his possession. He confronted Hampton in an effort to protect himself and others. Hampton continued to use the knife and continued to threaten the victim and others. Hampton eventually cut the victim with the knife at which point the victim shot Hampton. After being shot, Hampton continued to verbally threaten and attack him. The victim shot Hampton again. At this point, other people were able to subdue Hampton until Tyler Police arrived. Hampton was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for two gunshot wounds. The victim was also transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for several knife wounds. Investigators were called to the scene as well as the Crime Scene Unit to process the scene. Investigators believe at this point that the victim was acting in self-defense.
This case is still open and will continue to be investigated.

(903-597-2833). Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in this case, or any, felony case.
Two men were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Sunday afternoon after being involved in an altercation in south Tyler.
The altercation took place around 2pm Sunday at the Brookside Village town homes off of Thigpen Road near the Target on South Broadway in Tyler.
Officials say two white males were involved in the altercation. The first male was stabbed by the second male, and the second male was shot by the first male.
Both were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Tyler police remains on the scene and is investigating the situation.
