TYLER, TX (KLTV) - One of the fastest shooters in the world lives right here in East Texas. No, we're not talking about Jamey Boyum and his camera; we're talking about BJ Norris and his handgun.

He recently took first in a quick draw competition, beating contenders from all over the world. But, it's not just speed, its accuracy.

BJ Norris is 22, but he uses a nine. He usually has it on the job at Lock N Load in Tyler, Texas, because you never know when things slow down enough for him to fire off a few rounds.

It doesn't take him long to go through a whole box of ammo, so his breaks are usually pretty short.

Back in August he entered the Steel Challenge Open where competitors came from all over the world for bragging rights. Guess who gets to brag about that one.

"Technically the title is World Speed Shooting Champion," he said.

And I can see that. When it comes down to winning it's all about hundredths of a second.

"Every part of the gear is set up basically for speed. The holster that I use is adjustable to where I can set it to any angle. Any adjustment that I want is on the holster so that I can set it up perfectly so my hand position comes right naturally to the gun," he said.

But speed is only half of it. BJ has to hit the target in a tight grouping. This is something BJ is also good at. Sometimes it doesn't go his way.

"I recently competed in the USPSA Limited Nationals in Las Vegas. Each shooter is awarded a slot. The top sixteen from the previous year re automatically invited back to the competition, and that's how I received my slot for this year," he said.

Last year he was fourth, and this year he was also fourth. There's always next year, though.

And, yes, I asked, and no, he's not related to Chuck Norris.

"I bet you can draw faster than him, though," I said.

"I don't know," he said.

"I don't know either," I said.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned that. Nobody wants to be on the bad side of any Norris.

BJ plans on competing as often as he can. He has submitted some video to Top Gun, a reality show, but has not yet heard back from them.
