CENTER, TX (KTRE) - A man wanted for a death in Panola County found himself behind bars after an unusual set of circumstances Friday afternoon.
Center Police Det. Joey Haley said he was taking a lunch break with Det. Stephen Stroud at 12:45 p.m. Friday at Pineywoods Seafood, located at 1003 Hurst Street, when a man walked in and asked if he was driving a brown car and he had just backed into the car, which was Stroud's Center Police unit.
Haley said they walked outside with the man and even though the car left just a scratch, they decided to call a state trooper in to investigate the accident. Haley said the trooper arrived, and arrested the man, identified as Jose Acuna.
It turns out Acuna has been wanted since June in a Panola County traffic death on February 22, in which Acuna ran a red light and killed someone, according to Panola County District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson.
A grand jury indicted Acuna on June 30, on a charge of criminal negligent homicide, Davidson said.
