Arrest made in theft of 92-yr-old deaf man's wallet

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Longview Police have identified and arrested the suspect responsible for stealing the wallet of an elderly deaf man.

Adam Everett Williams, 40, of Longview was arrested for stealing the wallet of 92-year-old Harry Nash.

Mr. Nash said he was paying for his items and set his wallet down on the check out stand. He forgot to pick it up and when he returned only a few seconds later it was gone and Williams was paying for items at that register.

"When I reached down to get it, it was gone. I told the clerk where's the bill fold and we looked all around trying to find it and we just couldn't come up with it so that's when the police came in," said Harry Nash, had his wallet stolen.

With surveillance images police were able to identify Adam Williams as a suspect.

"Mr. Williams was standing there the entire time and he knew the wallet was in his pocket," said Kristi Brian, Longview Police Department, Public Information Officer.

Investigators started looking for Williams when the unexpected happened.

"We were on our way to his house and he was coming to see us. He had seen himself on TV when KLTV ran the story and he was going to turn himself in," said Brian.

Longview Police were able to retrieve Harry's driver's license, social security and medical card.

Harry said $300 in his wallet when it was stolen is still missing.

Williams was arrest and taken to Gregg County Jail.

He posted bond on Wednesday.
