GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Union Grove ISD teacher was booked into the Gregg County Jail on Thursday afternoon on charges of improper relationship between educator and student.

Angela Sue New, 39, was a high school English teacher.

Union Grove Superintendent Brian Gray says the district was told of the allegation and placed New on administrative leave while an investigation was under way. The district finished their investigation and then turned it over to Gladewater Police.

According to judicial records, Angela Sue New, 39, allegedly committed the offense in late April of this year.

Gray says New resigned immediately following her arrest; she had been with the district since 2007.

Authorities say the victim is an 18-year-old male student.

The White Oak Police Department made the arrest.
