Police interview with driver involved in fatal motorcycle accident released

Released by The City of Tyler:

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Tyler Police Department has released the audio interview with the driver of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala four-door involved in the crash, Helen Turner from Lindale.

"The audio interview with Mrs. Turner clearly reveals that she understood what she was to do at the signal," said Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle.  "She looked, felt she had time to make the turn, and proceeded through the intersection.  She then felt the impact of the motorcycle striking her vehicle."

Mrs. Turner's vehicle was involved in the fatal accident in which she failed to yield the right-of-way while turning left.  Kendrick Clark was operating a 2008 Kawasaki Motorcycle and stuck Mrs. Turner's vehicle.  Mr. Clark died as a result of the accident.

Verbatim from the interview (Parenthesis are Officer):

I was coming down Broadway was going to turn left into mall and going to turn left into mall at the light.

The light was green and the left turn arrow was flashing yellow which I understand means  you can turn if it is clear

I looked and I  had in my opinion room to turn and I turned and the next thing I know something hit me (Yes ma'am) and I put my car in park I stepped on the emergency brake and immediately got out

and saw the young man lying face down

he had a helmet on I don't believe he was moving but there were flames everywhere 2.36 (Yes ma'am I'm sorry) And there two men trying to put the flames out  on the young man and I stepped across a stream of flames to see if I could do anything.

He was on fire I knew I couldn't do anything, but those men were helping him I was trying to call 911 (Yes ma'am. From your cell phone?) on my cell phone and I was so shook up I couldn't make it work

3.14 and two ladies came up to me and said they saw it and would call 911 and think someone else had already called 911 (Yes ma'am)
