He's worked for the City of Tyler for more than 20 years. Thursday, co-workers said farewell to the retiring city manager, Pinkney Butler.
A reception was held for him this afternoon at City Hall. Butler joined Tyler city government in 1983, working his way up to the top non-elected post... becoming city manager in 1997.
Despite pleas from current mayor Joey Seeber to stay, Butler feels it's time to step aside... though it's still tough to do.
"It's good for me because I know it's time for me to move over and let someone bring the next level of passion for a great city. But it's bitter in a sense that I don't want to let go. It's bittersweet," Butler said.
