New Rules for Silence and Pledge in Schools

New requirements could be imposed in your child's classroom if lawmakers in Austin get their way.

Several bills being debated right now would require schools to hold a minute of silence every morning. Other proposals would require students to say the Pledge of Allegiance unless parents submitted a written objection.

There are already state laws which allow local schools to have moments of silence and say the Pledge if they choose.

If passed, the new requirements would go into effect September 1.
