Trooper Shot in Marshall Traffic Stop

A state trooper is thankful to be alive today after a traffic stop turns into a shootout where he gets shot.

A piece of standard equipment very likely saved a state trooper's life.

After 6:00 last night, a Marshall D.P.S. Trooper stopped a car on a county road and asked for identification from 3 occupants.

That's when one man began firing shots. Trooper Alan Clark was shot, but the bullet shattered a radio microphone on his shoulder and deflected away.

The suspect was also hit, but that didn't stop him from leading authorities on a four hour manhunt in the Woodlawn area north of Marshall.

20 year old Thomas Wynne of Diana was arrested.  He had actually been shot twice. Neither time was serious.

Investigators say it was a miracle officer Clark wasn't hurt. Thomas Wynne remains in the Harrison County Jail on 100-thousand dollars bond.  He's charged with attempted capital murder.
