Many East Texas cities continue to feel the lasting effects of last year’s snowstorm, particularly in their infrastructure. Gladewater is one of those cities, and officials are now taking steps to renovate the city’s aging water treatment facility.
The cold turned deadly without proper means of staying warm. The Texas Department of State Health Services reports 246 people died due to winter storm-related deaths, 161 of those deaths were directly related to extreme cold exposure.
