Andrea Valdez

Andrea Valdez is an East Texas native, growing up in the Mineola area. She anchors Good Morning East Texas Weekend and reports for Good Morning East Texas.

Andrea is alumna from Mineola High School, graduating Class of 2019, and Tyler Junior College earning her Associates of Arts in Radio/TV Broadcasting in 2021. She is working towards her B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of North Texas with a minor in Spanish.

Her passion for journalism dates back to 2010 after realizing a love for writing and an encounter with the KLTV Booth at the annual Kid’s Day in Bergfeld Park. At age 13, she started a journalism club in school and participated in UIL speaking events throughout junior high and high school. During her senior year, she served as an anchor/reporter of the Mineola High School News Team.

In college, Andrea was heavily involved with the award-winning student media and newspaper, The Drumbeat, where she served as Broadcast News Director, anchor, and producer, earning multiple Texas Intercollegiate Press Association awards and an Associate Collegiate Press Pacemaker award.

Andrea is a member Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band service fraternity, serving as Chapter President during her time at TJC and the National Association of Hispanic Journalist, where she served as Chapter President at the University of North Texas.

Her main career goal is to continue serving East Texas as a storyteller and eventually, teach the next generation of journalists.
