Mary Lou Retton recovering at home after being in ICU, daughter says

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV/Gray News) - Former Olympic gymnast and West Virginia native Mary Lou Retton has returned home and is recovering after being in the ICU earlier this month.
Retton’s daughter McKenna Kelley shared an update on her mother’s health on social media Monday.
In an Instagram post, Kelley said Retton is home and “in recovery mode.”
She goes on to say that while Retton is home, there is still “a long road of recovery” ahead of her.
Her daughter said she is overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone.
Retton’s family revealed the former Olympian’s battle with a rare form of pneumonia earlier this month.
They had also created a page on the fundraising site spotfund, noting that Retton did not have health insurance. It has raised more than $450,000 as of Monday afternoon.
The Fairmont native made history during the 1984 Summer Olympics when she won the all-around gold medal in gymnastics, becoming the first American woman to accomplish the feat.
Retton also won two silver medals and two bronze medals during the Olympics.
