Bownds on 99-yard run: ‘The breath left their lungs at that point’

TIMPSON, Texas (KTRE) - Having covered high school football for many years, Michael Coleman said Timpson’s game in Week 9 against Joaquin featured something he’d never seen before.
“I’ve seen a lot of football,” Coleman said. “I’ve never seen a muffed punt, the receiving team recovers it, and the guy who muffed the punt decides to scoot 99 yards the other direction.”
Coleman was talking about Terry Bussey, who muffed a punt return on the 1-yard line. But on the first play from scrimmage, Bussey took the ball on a quarterback keeper and ran 99 yards for a touchdown.
“The breath left their lungs at that point, and never returned for the remainder of the game,” Bownds said.
