Kiwanis Club of Hideaway Lake donates $20K to local nonprofits
HIDEAWAY, Texas (KLTV) - The Kiwanis Club of Lake Hideaway held its annual day of giving on Tuesday, distributing $20,000 to local nonprofits. The funds were extra from the club budget and were distributed to groups like the Children’s Advocacy Center, Breckenridge Village and Hope Haven of East Texas.
“It is a celebration,” said Glenn Davis, President of the Club. “It is a part of what we want the community to understand, that we celebrate what they do in the community.”
The club holds this day annually, and has done so since 2009, donating more than $200,000 since. For organizations like Meals on Wheels, every dollar counts.
“We are going to take the money that the Kiwanis club gives us and just directly put it into feeding people,” said Collin Taylor, development director of Meals on Wheels East Texas. “We spend over $45,000 each week feeding 2,700 clients.”
The largest recipient was the Lindale ISD Education Foundation, which helps teachers with out-of-pocket classroom costs. They will be using the $3,000 to support their “Grants for Good Ideas” program, which gives teachers grants for unique learning projects.
“We have had so many great ideas come from teachers. We have funded book machines,” said Courtney Sanguinetti, the director of the foundation. “So they’re like vending machines so kids can come in and buy a book when they earn eagle bucks. Eagle bucks are our reward program so they’re earned for good behavior, good attendance, those types of things.”
