Tri-County Community Action hosts free child health screening event for Center residents
CENTER, Texas (KTRE) - Immunizations and health screenings are part of getting ready to return to school. Tri-County Community Action Head Start of Center is helping with free resources.
On Wednesday, the organization hosted a health and wellness fair in Center. Over a dozen health vendors attended, providing healthcare information and free screenings.
“For me, somebody that just moved in, coming to this health fair it was very helpful,” said Monica Saavedra of Center.
Saavedra said she and her family are new to the area and was glad she could stop by.
Visitors received free dental hygiene essentials and measured their blood pressure with East Texas Community Health Services.
“All of these things are important for the development of the child,” said Healthcare manager Vanessa Davis.
Davis said that as children return to school in the fall, the organization is “focusing on children and their families, and we want to make sure that our community is healthy overall.”
Davis also said letting everyone know about nearby healthcare resources is essential.
“Especially for our rural communities, for the families to get out and go and get what they need.”
Saavedra said her kids’ health is a top priority as they enter the new school year.
“I think they should all be vaccinated and all up to date with their physicals. Making sure that everything is okay with them.”
The health and wellness fair’s next stop will be in Jasper on Aug. 3.
