NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Developer Kim Crisp is working to build a restaurant inside of an old bank in downtown Nacogdoches.

During their Tuesday meeting, the Nacogdoches City Council will consider approving a permit to Kim Crisp for the renovation of 124 East Main Street, the Wettermark Bank building, for use as a restaurant on the first floor and 3 loft apartments on the second floor.

The building has been standing in the same location since the late 1800′s.

“It’s a building that everybody knows in Nacogdoches. It’s a big, beautiful brick building,” said Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation president, Larissa Philpot-Brown.

“We’re trying to keep it as original as possible,” Crisp said he purchased the building to begin the renovations.

His construction team has also been salvaging material to reuse throughout the building. So far – they have placed wood flooring and ceiling just as they would have had centuries ago.

Crisp says the Italian restaurant, ‘Roma’s’, is expected to bring 17 new jobs. Crisp said they are halfway done with the renovations and is looking forward to it once it’s complete.

“We get to do something that we get to put our time and effort into and maybe help the downtown area, you know grow and be vibrant again.”
