LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - Although it’s been open for several weeks, now it’s official. Longview city officials held a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the newly remodeled Broughton Recreation Center.

There was also a short program held in the old gymnasium. Several officials spoke including Congressman Nathaniel Moran and Longview City Councilman Wray Wade. They talked about the importance of the center and how it brings people together. Wade is a Longview native who started using the center in 1978.

“I’m so happy to be a part of this. I played in this gym, ran through this recreation center, ran through these parks as a little kid. And, it’s just such an honor to be back here on this day and also represent this area as their council member,” Wade said.

Afterwards, the center hosted a festival for anyone who wanted to attend.

KLTV’s Jamey Boyum talks with Longview Parks and Recreation Director Scott Caron about the Broughton Recreation Center’s ribbon cutting and the new rec center.
