TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A woman found beaten unconscious at a Tyler intersection has died.

Tyler police say the woman was Teri Furgerson, 48, of Pampa. The case is now a homicide investigation.

Furgerson was found at the intersection of North Fannin Avenue and East Valentine Street at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. It appeared she had been assaulted and had trauma to her head.

Tyler Police have been busy investigating any leads in this case. Andy Erbaugh with the Tyler Police Departmen said that Furgerson had an assault-type injury to her head, which caused her death.

“I can’t go into too many of them but she had very apparent trauma to her head and that’s what led us to carry it as an aggravated assault because it was obvious trauma to her head and ended up what caused her death,” Erbaugh said.

Police are unsure how she got to Tyler, why she was here, or who she may have known. Erbaugh said if anyone knows that information, to please call. Police are asking anyone who was near the intersection of North Fannin Avenue and East Valentine from Monday night to Tuesday morning, to call police if they know anything.

“We do have her ID and we do have a homeless coordinator who’s tracking down a few people to talk to to see if they know her. We always follow that as well because if that’s the cause, there’s a community there that we can speak to. So there’s a lot of leads we are following as far as that and tips,” Erbaugh said.

No word yet on if the assault happened at the location that Furgerson was found by police. Erbaugh said they have a couple of leads they are following.
