RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A third grade student and his father were killed in a Sunday morning wreck that injured seven others, according to the Henderson Independent School District.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, first responders from several departments were called to the multi-vehicle crash on Hwy 259 N near Henderson. According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Moises Rocha-Vanegas, 35, of Kilgore, and Rosa Rodriguez, 35, of Kilgore, are the two victims in the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. Rocha-Vanegas was pronounced dead at the scene, while Rodriguez died after being transported to a hospital in Tyler. DPS also reported that Jesse Mueller, 29, of Henderson and an as-yet unnamed male juvenile were killed while riding in the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. Mueller was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male juvenile was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital in Shreveport.

Three other Henderson ISD students were among the injured, a news release stated. According to DPS, one of them with life threatening injures.

“Counselors will be available (Monday) for both our students and our staff. Our hearts are heavy and we grieve with the families in this most difficult of times.”

Wylie Elementary School Principal, Angela Dowling says, “We are one big family at Wylie Elementary and everyone is feeling this loss. He was a very sweet kiddo, beautiful smile every morning, wanted a big hug.”

Henderson ISD Superintendent, Thurston Lamb commented on how this is affecting the close-knit Henderson ISD community.

“In a small community, something like this is really devastating. We don’t want to lose any of our students at any time for any reason and so we are trying to make sure that we are doing everything possible to help the family, support the family, but also all the students and staff that were affected by it and make sure we provide the necessary emotional support because tragedy impacts us all differently.” he said.

The cause of the fatal crash is still unknown.
