CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The roof of the Maydelle Volunteer Fire Department was blown off in a storm that came through Wednesday evening.

According to Fire Chief Jody Gray, he received a call last night and headed out around 5:30 to see the damage.

Gray said about 75 percent of the roof was blown off. Metal was all over and tangled in the trees.

“It was just a devastating experience, a disaster everywhere. The station was flooded obviously from the roof being blown off. All the equipment inside was okay, trucks were okay. But station was inoperable at that point. Electricity was off, power polls down on the building. It was a pretty nasty event,” he said.

No injuries were reported and they have since pushed the debris out of the roadway.

“We’re functioning 100 percent right now. The roof is tarped, insurance company came out and tarped the roof, the best we can for the next rain coming we’re okay. But we’re running 100 percent to capacity,” Gray said.
