GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - With more people needing an internet connection for work and school, getting reliable service in rural areas has become crucial.

The Gregg County Commissioners Court is getting close to voting on a plan to get broadband into rural areas in the county. All 14 counties under East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) are developing plans to get internet service to everyone. ETCOG says everyone’s plans are different depending on population. Gregg County will be voting on their plan soon.

“We’re hoping to unfold a plan on June 29 Commissioner’s Meeting. We’re doing some final details and getting some documents prepared. And we’re working in conjunction with East Texas Council of Governments as well as a broadband provider and we’re going to be rolling it out on the twenty-ninth,” Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt said.

Judge Stoudt says there is spotty broadband available in Gregg County, but this plan is made to fill in the gaps in service. They hope it will take about 18 months to establish service after the plan is approved.
