TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Nearly 40 employers were at the Workforce Solutions of East Texas job fair looking for qualified candidates on Thursday.

Alex Mancilla is the personnel supervisor for Sanderson Farms and handles their hiring.

There have been more than 11,000 online job ads in the last 30 days according to Workforce Solutions East Texas as demand for employees remains steady as the pandemic has slowed.

“These job fairs are really important to show the community, especially post COVID that we’re still here and we’re still offering jobs. Being here in the middle of North Tyler where there’s a bunch of hardworking citizens, natives of East Texas, just being here today is a very special opportunity,” he said.

All kinds of opportunities are available to people right here in East Texas. Schools, law enforcement agencies, healthcare, and customer service industries were all represented today. Samuel Adams is a Detention Officer at the Smith County Jail.

“With the other law enforcement agencies, we’re short. Currently I think we’re 30 to 35 detention officers short. We’re trying to get out in the community and get people to get their foot into a good paying job,” Adams said.

Today was Allison Sharp’s first time attending a job fair. She said she was impressed with how organized the event was and how friendly people were.

“I’ve come from a different state, coming back home to Texas, looking for something that’s permanent and that works for my needs,” Sharp said. “Especially with COVID, looking for something remote, if possible.”

Business Services Manager, Kim Stacy said they cover 14 counties and have been holding close to four job fairs a month. While they’re seeing less traffic, they are seeing new employers coming to the fairs in need of employees.

“Since the beginning of the year I challenged the team to do as many as they can because this is making a difference,” Stacy said.

Workforce Solutions East Texas is having their next job fair May 24 at Jarvis Christian University.
