ABC’s Chris Connelly predicts Oscar winners
EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - Chris Connelly, ABC’s entertainment contributor, gave a preview of the upcoming 94th Academy Awards show when he spoke to East Texas Now Host Jeremy Butler Friday.
“Who are the favorites to take home the Oscar?” a press release stated. “And what surprises might we expect?”
In response to a question from Butler, Connelly said the show’s new three-host format should make things interesting.
“I think it’s going to make it faster and funnier and less predictable,” Connelly said. “When Will Packer, the show’s executive producer talked about the three hosts, he talked about them having different qualities he can sort of mix and match. He says Regina Hall is his Swiss Army knife; she can do anything. Amy Schumer is fearless, and you never know what she’s going to say. Wanda Sykes is just funny from the time she gets up in the morning until when she goes to sleep at night.”
Connelly said the three hosts will allow Packer to deploy their different energies at different stages of the show and keep its energy high.
“A lot of comedy and a lot of music will be driving the Oscars,” Connelly said.
When asked to elaborate on the musical acts on tap for the Academy Awards show, Connelly said, “Do I need to say anything else but Texas’ own, Beyonce? Beyonce will be performing at the Oscars. For some people, that’s all they need to hear.”
Connelly said Beyonce will be performing her song from the movie, “King Richard.”
“It’s a phenomenal song, that song of hers from ‘King Richard,’” Connelly said. “It might win her first Oscar, but you know that performance will be epic.”
Connelly said Reba McIntire and Billie Eilish will be performing at the Oscars as well.
Later, Connelly broke down the nominees in the various major award categories and gave his predictions about the possible dark horse, or surprise, winners.
The 94th Academy Awards show is scheduled to take place on ABC on Sunday night.
