LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Reach 1 Teen is an outreach program started by the Crowns of Christ group at Life Gate Church in Lufkin that helps give teenagers in need a merry Christmas.

The group states that they are committed to helping teens have a Christmas in Angelina County via private donations from businesses and residents giving money or gift cards. The program, now in its third year, helps teens in Redlands, Zavala, Lufkin and Diboll.

Brittany and Chris Gaona of Crowns of Christ have created the Reach One Teen program to give teens in need a little bit of Christmas that they wouldn’t otherwise have. The program takes signups for kids ages 13-18 from low-income families from Angelina County. The donations are used for gift cards to shops and restaurants to give to the kids. Last year when they received more gift cards than kids on the list, the Gaonas went and found more teens to help. Brittany says that the idea for the program came from a place of personal hardship.

“The whole reason for this program was because I was a single mom,” said Brittany. “My son wanted to go, after football games or after any kind of sport, and wanted to go out and eat and we couldn’t ever afford it.”

The program is in its third year and has grown from helping 10 kids to 40 in its first two years. this year the Gaona’s hope to double the number of teens they can help. December 17th will be the last day of teen signups.
