I-20 reopened after dead cattle cleared from road at Smith, Van Zandt county line
VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Interstate 20 has been reopened near the Smith and Van Zandt County line after crews spent hours clearing dead cattle from the roadway.
Around 2:45 a.m. Thursday, law enforcement responded to a burning cattle hauler on I-20, east of the city of Van, near the Willow Branch Road exit.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver let the cattle out of the trailer and several of them were hit by other vehicles just inside the Smith County line.
All lanes of the interstate were shut down for a couple of hours, but were reopened by 5:45 a.m.
Information on how many vehicles were damaged in the incident or possible injuries was not immediately available.
