Two families without a home after fire in West Tyler

Lakeshore Fire

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A house fire displaced two East Texas families Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to West Lakeshore Drive, just south of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. Talisa Pickens lived with her daughter in one side of the duplex home that burned to the ground. She received a phone call from her mother at work that her house was on fire. She didn’t know how bad the fire was until she got to the scene.

“It’s devastating. I was very torn up. Me and my daughter, she was in tears when we made it here,” said Pickens.

Pickens’ neighbor was asleep at the time, but was able to escape the fire with her daughter safely. What’s left is the remains of what these families had worked so hard to gain. It left Pickens and her daughter with only the clothes on their back and no place to go.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. I am just praying,” said Pickens. “Family members have offered for us to stay until we can get back on our feet but as far as a plan, I don’t have a plan. I don’t know,” said Pickens.

Pickens asks for the community’s support and prayers as she and her daughter work to recover from the fire. You can donate to their GoFundMe by clicking here.
