Speeding vehicle strikes bicycle, crashes into wooded area off W. Cumberland in Tyler

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Police are at the scene of a crash in South Tyler.

According to Tyler Police Department PIO Andy Erbaugh, a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a ditch in a wooded area. The car crashed at 2400 Oak Creek Circle off W. Cumberland, near Old Jacksonville Hwy. The call came in to police just after 7 p.m. as a possible pin-in wreck.

A statement from Erbaugh at 9 p.m. said that witnesses stated a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a bicyclist before crashing into a wooded area.

The bicyclist was taken to CHRISTUS Mother Frances by EMS with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car was transported by EMS to UT Health Main with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol does appear to have played a part in the wreck, Erbaugh stated.

Officers are still on scene so take caution of driving in the area. This case is still under investigation.
