TRINITY, Texas (KTRE) - A Trinity junior is now a state champion and record holder in powerlifting.
Last week, Kailyn Fisher won gold for her weight class the 2021 State Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi.
Fisher set personal best lifts with a squat of 520 pounds, 285 pounds on the bench, and a 450 pound deadlift. Her totals were good enough for a new state overall record in her weight class of 1255 pounds.
“Before I did my last deadlift coach asked if I wanted to break a record or do my old one. I said we are going to break one,” Fisher said. “When I got done with my last dead lift my sister, who is our assistant coach ran over and asked if I knew how much I lifted. I did not know and when she told me I was excited.”
This is the fist state championship in power lifting for Trinity.
“We start practice around November but she is lifting far beyond that,” coach Forrest Reddick said. “She goes with her dad. She is lifting in practice. She is in the gym when it is available. It goes beyond the regular season to have success.”
