TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A 78-year-old man died in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred at the intersection of FM 1616 and Trey Circle in Henderson County Monday morning.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash at 8:40 a.m. Monday. The crash occurred at the intersection of FM 1616 and Trey Circle about 4.3 miles northeast of Athens.

The preliminary crash report shows that Thomas Carroll, of Athens, was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna west on Trey Circle, and Larry Webb, 44, of Athens, was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup south on FM 1616 when the wreck occurred. For an unknown reason, Carroll disregarded the stop sign at the intersection, and the pickup struck the right passenger side of the van, the press release stated.

Both vehicles wound up in the west ditch alongside FM 1616.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Randy Daniel pronounced Carroll dead at the scene. Carroll’s body was taken to the Carroll Lehr Funeral Home in Athens.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and there is no other information at this time,” the press release stated.
