AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - The Texas Department of State Health Services reported just over 1,000 cases of COVID-19 on public school campuses in last week’s report.

The report states 372 students tested positive while 665 staff tested positive for the week ending Jan. 3 for a total of 1,037.

The number is down for students and staff from the previous week. For the week ending Dec. 27, 2020, 458 students tested positive and 692 staff tested positive.

For the school year there have been 64,574 student cases and 38,011 staff cases. The report does not list active or recovered cases.

Longview, Lufkin, Nacogdoches and Tyler ISDs reported no new cases for the week ending Jan. 3. However, this is most likely due to the fact that classes in these districts have only just this week resumed.
