QUITMAN, Texas (KLTV) - The 10-year-old boy struck by an 18-wheeler on Hwy 37 Monday evening has been moved out of the ICU to a regular room according to the family.

Justin Luke Hawkins, who goes by Luke, was flown by helicopter to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. He had a small brain bleed and was in the ICU overnight.

Quitman Police Chief John Farmer said he has bruises, road rash and lacerations on his head. According to the family, if there are no complications, he’ll probably be out of the hospital in a week.

“It’s a miracle for sure,” Farmer said.

The boy ran out in front of an 18-wheeler heading to the park with four other kids, according to Farmer.

The boy was at the intersection of Main and Redbud at around 5:30 p.m., according to Quitman police. The semi-truck was headed northbound into Quitman on Hwy 37 when the child was struck.
