Person killed in Winona wreck identified by DPS

On Wednesday evening, Texas DPS Sgt. Jean Dark said the investigators preliminary report indicates that the driver of a 2012 GMC Acadia was traveling southbound on SH-155 and for an unknown reason, traveled into the northbound lane where it collided with a 2011 Cub Cadet flatbed truck.

The driver of the Acadia was identified as Jeffrey Dale Jones, 36, of Larue.  Judge Meredith pronounced Jones deceased at the scene.  He was taken to Lighthouse Funeral Home in Tyler, Dark said.

The driver of the Cub Cadet was identified as Christopher Lee Bundrant, 43, of Quitman.  Bundrant was transported to UT-Health- Tyler in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

UPDATE: At least one person is confirmed dead after a Wednesday morning wreck on Highway 155 in Smith County.

The wreck happened about 7:30 a.m. between Winona and Big Sandy. DPS is working the scene. We’ve learned a work truck and an SUV were involved in the collision.

The north and southbound lanes of Highway 155 are shut down. The identity of the person killed has not been released, and the cause of the wreck is under investigation.

A major two-vehicle crash has Highway 155 shut down at County Road 351 north of Winona, according to authorities.

Two ambulances units are currently on the on scene.
